MNN (yeah, yeah…there is a site called “mother nature network” don’t be a hippy-hater) recently posted an article about the “new crop of American Farmers” entitled 40 Farmers under 40.  And there are a few more listed in the Comments section

I’m thinking I’ve got just a few more years to make it on to this list….or at least eat some of the food grown by people on this list!

Local eats tips: Organic Valley – if it’s in your store, it’s local…

Over the last 3 challenges many of our Midwest dairy/egg eating challengers have relied on and enjoyed Organic Valley as their source for these local treats and attributed La Farge, WI as Organic Valley’s locale.  Me too.  This past weekend I attended the Healthy Living Summit in Boston where Regina Beidler was the keynote speaker.  Regina, along with her husband and daughter, are certified organic dairy farmers in Randolph Center, Vermont…for Organic Valley.  “um…wait” I thought, “Vermont is NOT very Midwest, yo.”  I started to worry that we’d all been duped.

So from my seat in the very back row of the conference, I raised my little hand to ask a question.

“You in the back,” Regina smiled.

“Um…me right?” I clarified.

“yes you.” Regina nodded

“Um…(pause)….if I buy my Organic Valley back in Illinois…are you my dairy farmer?”

Regina went on to explain that Organic Valley works with dairy farmers in each of the regions they distribute their products.  So wherever you find Organic Valley – they are working with farmers from that region.

New England

Northeast

Heartland

Rocky Mountain

Texas

California

Southeast

 

So…YAY! For all of you residing in any of these areas…Organic Valley is local for you too…eat up!
