small things...

argh.

I am home sick (again) for the 3rd time this winter.  It's so rude of my immune system.  I thought we were close.  I thought I was taking good care of it.  I'm mean, I buy it nice things and take it fun places.  Is that not good enough for you, immunity?

While curled up on my couch I saw a woman who looked about my age and said she hadn't been sick since high school (!) all because she consumed kefir - which is full of probiotics.  Is that a lie?  I mean the no sick part...?  In the event this is a bonafide TRUE statement then I will be smothering my immune system in kefir...starting tomorrow.  Today I will remain curled up on my couch watching Project Runway inbetween nappers.

Turn around, Bright Eyes

I woke up this morning humming a song.  I wasn't totally aware of this until I reached the kitchen and found myself unable to stop myself from belting out the following:

"Once upon a time we were falling in love, now we're only falling apart.

There's nothing I can do...a total eclipse of the heart."

So good.  I only wish I knew what the hell I'd been dreaming.

As you know I've been attending a school in NYC on holistic health/nutrition/lifestyle towards a certificate in Holistic Health Counseling.  What you might not know is that I'm planning on opening a full-time private practice in holistic health counseling this summer (I'll begin taking on clients part-time soon!) 

The process of turning dream to reality has been a challenging one for me.  I believe in the work I plan to do, I believe in myself as a counselor.  And I have always wanted to work for myself, always struggling internally with the obligation put upon me by employers.  Don't get me wrong - I'm a good employee - I've won prizes for my employee-goodness.  But the office space has always been confining - I've just adjusted to it and lived with it and changed in ways I don't love because of it. 

So I know that the step I'm taking career-wise is the right step for me, but that hasn't made it easy.  I'm starting to realize that after all these years of leaving my dreams where they were (in my noggin) has left me full of doubt that dreams can be realized at all.  And has made decisions about which way to step next difficult for me to navigate.

And then I read the following (which was posted by a classmate of mine on our online forum)...

Dreamer becomes thrilled.

Dreamer becomes terrified.

If no action is taken, terrifying thoughts grow into flesh-eating monsters. Dream is considered unrealistic.

I'd be really curious if any of you regular dream chasers would share some of your wisdom with me.  I've brought this up before in a slightly different context.  I guess I'm wondering for those of you who can turn "I would love for my life to be..." into "This is what I want my life to be..." which then becomes, "I love how my life is!" how does that happen??  (Anna - I'm talking to you) And everyone else too!  Or those of you, like me, who have left a lot of dreams on the shelf - what has been stopping you?

If ever there was a time for rebel drinking

My friend Simona and I saw a movie Wednesday night.

Our friend Molly was supposed to join us, but her babysitter was a no show.

In line for popcorn simona said, "we should have snuck beer in our purses!"

I wish we had.  That movie made me want to hurl rocks.

Best 2 questions from the weekend

"Does the way you eat reflect the life you wish to have?"

"How come only some of the gorillas evolved?"

*Note: the theorist who posed the last question surmised that the reasons some gorillas evolved into humans was because they became omnivores and the complex protein structure of animal protein caused them to be all humanized.  And the vegetarian gorillas were happy as they were.  I have NO idea what sort of evidence there is to this theory.

Weekend 4- IIN

I did it!  I went to NYC and came back healthy and strong like a viking!  Took my airborne religiously and washed my hands lots and covered my mouth when other people sneezed and coughed.  And now I"m home for several weeks before I go back, which feels like great timing for a break.  I've got a lot of groundwork to lay before I'm really ready to take off in this new life direction and am doing that work now.  I'm excited to share with all of you the website that I'm working on...but it isn't quite ready for public view just yet...but I'll share it here once it is!!

This weekend wasn't my favorite as far as speakers go, but that being said it was still really good.  Not everyone can be "Avocado", I guess. sigh.  But here is the quick and dirty:

• We learned about how the 6-month program we offer is set and up and works - and it makes a lot of sense and I'm excited to be able to bring it to people
• It was a very protein focused weekend hearing from both an Atkins person and Sally Fallon representing herself as well as the Weston Price Foundation.  Their deal is about "primitive eating" being the healthiest diet b/c "hey our ancestors had straight teeth and we don't - so they must have been doing something right...right?"
• I wasn't too into either presentation - but it was interesting to learn about it and what I'm finding is that there is an element of all of these diets we've learned about that ring true in my ears - so I expect that they ring true for others as well

Ultimately there seems to be one underlying theme that threads it's way through most diets.  The quality of the food you put into your body makes the most difference.  Whether you are vegan, primitive, raw foodist, ayurvedic, macrobiotic, high protein, high carb or you just eat what you got in the fridge- where you get your food and how it is prepared are really important to your overall health. 

So eat your veggies (or your meat) and get them organic!
