A zillion years ago I proclaimed myself to be a “Pollanist” As in, a devotee of Michael Pollan. This was mostly in theory. To “Eat Food, Mostly Plants, Not too much” was an idea that I aspired to, but rarely met. And in the five years since first writing that post I have strayed far from that idea and way of life. I read a book this spring called “Foodist”. It wasn’t that groundbreaking of a diet/health book (none of them are, especially after you’ve read nearly every single one), but it was clear this author was a Pollanist too. So at the very least, what I got out of this book was a needed reminder. “Fit Erin, just eat good food and make it yourself.”
My excuse for the last 3 years has been my weird work schedule which requires me to bring both lunch and dinner with me to work. If you are like me than you frequently make a big batch of food at the start of the week and than HATE that same food by Wednesday. And then you eat fast food instead. I never found a rhythm that really worked for me. And I guess, maybe I didn’t really try. This summer, due to another weird work schedule, I am working very infrequently. This is giving me time to find my way back to good food.
Here is a peek at what I’ve been eating:
:: Broiled Salmon and mashed potatoes (made-up/homemade recipe)
:: Spicy Mango coleslaw (From this Food & Wine recipe). I think this might be the best coleslaw I’ve ever made!
:: Broccoli Pie before
:: Broccoli Pie After (From Plenty, by Yotam Ottolenghi)
Along with the veggies and fish, you’ll also find butter and cream and mayo. When I can I’ll work to find ways to decrease these or substitute these for healthier versions. For now…I am cooking really good food with really great quality ingredients. and also, yum.
Now something I’d like from you…
