I’m supposed to be working on my Nanowrimo project this morning, but have found myself wandering from room to room instead looking at messes to clean up. So in an effort to get the writing juices flowing I thought an on-time wrap up was in store!
So let’s see…what have I accomplished this month…?
#15 – Adopted a skincare routine. yawn. I think when I came up with this one I was really feeling my new decade approaching. But I hear that the skin starts to get dull around this time in life and maybe I’d started to notice that a bit. maybe. I wanted a nice cleanser and a nice moisturizer. If you have ever spent any time in the “facial care” aisle and are someone not well-versed in the necessity of these products it can become a little overwhelming. Do I need eye cream?? What if I just dab a little of my same ol’ moisturizer around my eyes? even-steven? I didn’t know. I thought I might want some products light on chemicals too. This is what I bought:

It’s citrusy and nice. I’ll admit I’m not totally clear on the concept of “Toner” other than I have a fond memory of my mom’s bottle of Clinique toner and felt like I should have some too.
*I would love some skin care tips from any of you who has some to share*
#3 Eat or drink 10 things I’ve never tried before (9 out of 10)
I had the opportunity to add #9 to this list. A few weeks ago my sister invited me over for some Afghani take-out from Kabul House in Skokie. I went for an authentic dish called Murgh Chalau – a chicken and rice dish. I’d heard a lot of good things about this place and drive past it every day on my way to/from work. it was good! Next time the Mantoo. Look it up.
One more food/drink to go and I’ve got something in mind….maybe I’ll cross this one off early!
#20 – Read 40 Books (35 of 40 complete)
October was a big audiobook month. I listened to 4 audiobooks this month; some of them so good I came up with reasons to take a drive just to keep listening. But somehow I only read one book…? Huh. anyhow, here they are:

The weekend leading up to a wedding is predictably complicated

Ensler’s memoir about her cancer diagnosis, her love of the Congo and her struggle to connect to her body. It was a little too slam-poetry for me.

A wonderfully written memoir of growing up with a drug addict/dealer mom in working-class Boston. It felt like an unfinished story, but I wanted to know more and that is a good thing.

If you haven’t read Strayed’s memoir Wild I don’t know what you are waiting for. once you’ve finished that come back and read (or listen to) this one. She is a heartbreakingly good writer.

Well, I kind of had to pick this one, didn’t I? It’s the story of a woman who is required by her late mother to complete all the items on a life list she’d created at age 14. It’s a sweet story with a couple good twists and turns. And I knew how it would end from the very beginning, but I kept listening because I wanted to hear it play out.
#9 – Spend 25% of the year exploring all the other stuff when it comes to body image and what’s really important to me (formally lose 25% of my body weight) (in progress)
So far I’ve covered:
I’m planning on 9 more weeks of thinking bout stuff. It’s been good so far

What’s on tap for November:
- I am using NANOWRIMO to revise the story I wrote last year with the goal of polishing it off well enough to send out
- I might drive a vespa!
- I’ll finish my bedroom redo
- I’ll sip cocktails by a pool
- there might be an island visited
There are 15 items left on my list to complete. Might be time to get creative…
